About Us
Our Meetings: New Horizons members gather twice a month at the First Church of
Lombard in Lombard, Illinois (click on "Meeting Map" above for address and map).
For these meetings, we hire professional speakers to discuss investing, sports medicine,
fitness, relationships and many other topics in which members have an interest.
Sometimes, in lieu of a speaker, we plan a dance, a charitable auction, or another type
of activity that promotes our getting to know each other better. Almost every meeting
is followed by an open dance in which we invite all to participate.
New Horizons’ Membership: Currently there are 155 members aged 40 and up with
the number growing each month. “Alumni members” are those who met and married
someone in our group but who want to continue to share our experiences, and we are
delighted to have them. However, we are primarily a singles group and will remain so.
The New Horizons’ Experience: Whether you are divorced, a widow, a widower, or
have never been married, at New Horizons you will find others with your same shared
life experience. We encourage camaraderie, conversation, and enjoying life. You will
probably do things you never thought you would do and one day may find yourself
calling your family to say, “I went on a canoe trip with 60 other people, and I’ve never
been in a canoe in my life.” “Last week I started to learn to swing dance and line
dance.” “The week before, I went out to dinner and to a play.” Most of our members
admit to feeling revitalized after attending our functions. We also have a charitable
side. Depending on individual interest, some of our members walk for charities, cook
breakfast at Ronald McDonald House, or pack food for the needy at the Northern
Illinois Food Bank.
Social Events: A sample list of our activities includes biking, dancing, golf, canoe trips,
white water rafting, plays, community service activities, Halloween party, Christmas
party, Barn Dance and more. We have had trips to Las Vegas, Germany, Italy, and a
cruise in the Caribbean. The variety of events is much too long to mention everything
here. Our approach to social events is simple: if members have an interest, we make it
happen.
Cost: New Horizons is a non-profit corporation. No one is salaried. Our organization
functions through members volunteering to accept responsibility for our administrative
needs. The cost of membership is just $30.00 per year. The yearly fee pays for the
New Horizons website, insurance, and legal fees. In addition, some activities are free
while other activities may charge a nominal fee to help cover the cost of room rental,
catered food, professional speakers, etc.
Affiliations: New Horizons is not affiliated with any church, religion, political group, or
civic organization. Everyone is welcome. We are a group of individuals who enjoy life
and getting to know other people. We would welcome the opportunity to get to know
you too!
